When Your Mind Is A Tangle Of Ambitions
Good plans unburden the mind.
Earlier this week, I carved out time to focus on my business. You know—the computer things: writing copy, refining the members area, planning events, writing proposals, looking at the numbers.
But once I had the time, I found myself spiraling. My ambition was a tangled mess, open loops and possibilities piling up like grains of sand. Overwhelm crept in. I froze.
My Fire element was running wild—igniting off every little spark of inspiration, scattering my focus in a dozen directions.
Enter: the Wood element.
Years ago, my husband came up with the phrase “Good Plans Unburden the Mind” to describe the essence of Wood. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the elements both nourish and regulate each other. Wood feeds Fire. It offers direction, structure, and the ability to create a path toward a goal.
I needed some Wood energy.
So I took a step back and did a big, fiery brain dump. Then I looked for the themes and noticed four clear paths. I sat with each one, tuning into my sacral YES—waiting to feel the spark of inspiration.
Once I found it, I followed it. All the other possibilities faded into the background. Suddenly, I was moving.
That’s the Wood element at work—channeling scattered Fire into focused flow.
As someone with a lot of Fire in my type, I thrive on inspiration. But too much at once, and I burn out. That’s when I lean on my Wood friends—the ones who remind me to put one foot in front of the other.
This is the energy of Spring. The season of vision, movement, and forward momentum.
We all have the Wood element within us. Sometimes we just need a nudge to clear the way.
If you're feeling stuck, scattered, or unsure where to focus, start with what inspires you—then find one tiny action to match it.
That’s how momentum begins.
I made a little instagram guide to help you do just that—a set of Spring prompts, tailored to each element type.
